Quantum Information, Science, and Technology Conference in the Philippines 2025

Welcome to a visual journey through the Philippines' first-ever Quantum, Information, Science, and Technology Conference!

Here's a quick look at the highlights from each day of this historic event.

The QISTCon.PH 2025, held from July 30 to August 1, 2025, brought together leading minds from across the globe to explore the accelerating frontier of quantum science and technology. Hosted in the Philippines and supported by DOST and PCIEERD, the 3-day event served as a dynamic platform for strategic dialogues, research presentations, and collaborative planning toward a thriving quantum ecosystem in the Indo-Pacific region.

Day 1 Highlights – Global Strategies and Industry Directions

The conference opened with inspiring messages from Philippine government leaders, followed by a series of keynotes on global and national quantum strategies, with speakers from OECD, Global Quantum Intelligence, and DOST-PCIEERD.

A major highlight was the Indo-Pacific Quantum Ecosystem session, featuring expert insights from Singapore, Indonesia, and Thailand on national initiatives and regional collaboration.

Recognized as an official event under the International Year of Quantum (IYQ) and supported by the Open Quantum Institute (OQI) and the Geneva Science and Diplomacy Anticipator (GESDA), the three-day gathering was co-organized by the Quantum Computing Society of the Philippines (QCSP) and the Department of Science and Technology – PCIEERD, in collaboration with SEGQuRo, CIT University, University of San Carlos, and DevCon Cebu.

Later sessions delved into quantum hardware approaches, with contributions from companies in China (SpinQ), USA (Rigetti Computing), and Canada (Mountain Quantum). Investment discussions were led by Qubits Ventures (USA) and QAI Ventures (Switzerland).

Cybersecurity-focused panels explored quantum cryptography and error correction, with business insights from EY Philippines, Deloitte Asia Pacific, and SpeQtral (Singapore).

The event showcased the Philippines’ emerging role in the Indo-Pacific quantum ecosystem, highlighted by keynotes from global experts, strategic dialogues on policy and education, and dynamic industry and academic showcases.

A special highlight was the unboxing and demonstration of the country’s first-ever quantum computer, brought in by Post Quantum Technologies Inc. (PQTI) in partnership with SpinQ Technology.

Participants also engaged in the Quantum Diplomacy Game and interactive simulations such as QiskitBlocks, fostering collaboration and learning across sectors.

The Quantum Diplomacy Game by Open Quantum Institute (OQI), a 2 to 3 hour immersive role-play facilitated by an experienced game leader, where participants stepped into the year 2035 to confront a world reshaped by large-scale quantum computing, nations racing for quantum supremacy, industries navigating disruptive breakthroughs, and global security systems on the brink of collapse due to cryptographic vulnerabilities.

Guided back to the present, each group of eight to ten participants, playing as scientists, policymakers, and industry leaders, debated and negotiated critical decisions that could alter that future, grappling with the delicate balance between innovation, ethics, and international cooperation.

The energy in the room was electric, with participants describing the experience as “eye-opening,” “intensely thought-provoking,” and “a rare opportunity to understand quantum’s real-world stakes beyond the lab.” Many reflected that the game not only deepened their understanding of the geopolitical and socio-economic dimensions of quantum technology, but also underscored the urgency of cross-sector dialogue, an insight they considered one of the most valuable takeaways from the entire conference.

Day 2 Highlights – Enterprise, Ethics, and Quantum Diplomacy

Featuring enterprise applications of quantum computing from HSBC (Singapore), AWS, IBM ASEAN, and Microsoft Asia, showcasing the technology’s integration in finance and tech.

Grassroots development across the Indo-Pacific was spotlighted with speakers from Vietnam, Singapore, Thailand, and the Philippines, while ethical and legal considerations were tackled by experts from Germany (KIT), Netherlands (University of Amsterdam), GESDA (Switzerland), and Portugal.

The day concluded with an interactive Quantum Diplomacy Game, encouraging participants to simulate policy and strategy development.

Day 3 Highlights – Research and Education in Focus

The final day emphasized academic advancements, starting with Dr. Mary Jacquiline Romero (Australia) and Dr. Mikhael Sayat (Singapore) discussing quantum research and memory. Applications in finance were presented by Dr. Yen-Jui Chang (Taiwan).

A dedicated session showcased the State of Quantum Research in the Philippines, with institutions such as UP, Ateneo, TIP Manila, Adamson University, and DOST.

The SEA Quantum Research forum brought together representatives from Vietnam, Singapore, Thailand, and Malaysia, emphasizing collaborative research directions.

A key panel on science communication and education included speakers from Quantinuum, QBulgari, and CQT Singapore.
The event closed with working group sessions that developed strategies for:
•    A Philippine quantum roadmap
•    Sustainable quantum education
•    Strengthening the Indo-Pacific quantum ecosystem
